I sit by in silence staring constantly at the recently redecorated board hanging on the opposite wall, tiny diyas and candles send little nerves of joy to the brain. There is definitely something distracting about the air, one can just not sit and study for the exams when there so much festivity around. Diwali is round the corner and though sometimes festivals end up in bickering about cleanliness in the house, once you are away from home there is a sudden realization of celebration. Cleaning and decorating is all part of the celebration, to induce joy. The ignited candle scents the air, tuning our senses with its flame. So with this sense of merriment, I sat around my friends and we indulged ourselves in gluttony. Today, we skipped the mess food.
At every passing moment, someone sends out a cracker into the night, and it sends out its sparkle to each one in the city. Today is what they call dhanteras and day after it is Diwali; but tomorrow I'll be at home. On the streets, if there's a man, a woman or a child, s/he can't get lost tonight. "The lights will guide you home" or at least kill the fear of darkness within. This is a festival time, then how can I sit back and study when my feet wants to move? My book lies beside me with the page marked where I'd left it, waiting to be picked up again and yet I have not let it come in my hands even though it slides slowly on the table, inch by inch.
