The Girl Next Door

The books fall back As she enters the room Keep you fixed in her tunes There she blinks, and smiles, and laughs Then she moves dancing in my room! One can hear her Even when she's far away Perhaps, arguing with her roommate Bursting again at her jokes One thing is for sure: she'll never let you get bored! Everyone knows her here As she walks around, saying aloud her greetings "Hi Di!", "Hi Pooja!", "Hi Sherry!" She'll sit for sometime and study seriously And then distract herself with something funny. She'll stand before the mirror from time to time, trying different dresses, make-up and shoes taking pictures of herself Then she'll ask us to review And that's Shyamly for you

I sit by in silence staring constantly at the recently redecorated board hanging on the opposite wall, tiny diyas and candles send little nerves of joy to the brain. There is definitely something distracting about the air, one can just not sit and study for the exams when there so much festivity around. Diwali is round the corner and though sometimes festivals end up in bickering about cleanliness in the house, once you are away from home there is a sudden realization of celebration. Cleaning and decorating is all part of the celebration, to induce joy. The ignited candle scents the air, tuning our senses with its flame. So with this sense of merriment, I sat around my friends and we indulged ourselves in gluttony. Today, we skipped the mess food. At every passing moment, someone sends out a cracker into the night, and it sends out its sparkle to each one in the city.
